Aquarium in Rovinj

In building of Rudjer Boskovic Institute, which is actually the Center for marine research is also Rovinjs Aquarium. The institute is founded in 1891st and was a field station of the Berlin aquarium in which they are then collected unknown marine organisms.

Even aquarium with more than three hundred species of marine organism has a century old tradition. Rovinj aquarium is considered one of the oldest institutions of its kind in the world.

In thirty lighted aquariums and behind thick glass, there's the colorful marine life of the Adriatic. In the aquarium you can see a large number of marine fish such as dentex, sea-bream, mullet, zosterisessor, gof, needles, eel, grouper, sole, sea bass, catfish, sea horse,  sea spider, moruna, striped bream, bream, ray, salpa, sarag, spar, trlja, conger eel, usate, but there are also, octopus, lobster and various other crustaceans, algae, sponges, etc.

In summer, the aquarium is open from 09-21 hours.

The main square in Rovinj

City square Marshal Tito (Titov trg) connects the old town of Rovinj and the newer part of Rovinj.

The town square was built in the 17th century and was called Piazza della Riva and later Square Vitorio Emanuele III.

Today in the middle of the square is a fountain, built in 1959th year. Only twenty meters from the fountain there is a tower with the City clock from the 19th century. Clock has on it a Venetian lion and the symbol of Serenissima. To the tower are situated a few coffee bars where you can drink coffee, eat homemade ice cream and homemade cake or find shade under umbrellas during the summer heat.

On the other side, lies the Hotel Adriatic with its urban café and only a few meters away there is a heritage museum of Rovinj.

Among the Hotel Adriatic and Heritage Museum is located the main entrance to the old city of Rovinj. Above the entrance is a Baroque Balbi arch, which is Venetian building coated with stone from the 1678th to 1679th year.

Rovinj Heritage Museum

Rovinj heritage museum was founded by a group of Rovinj artists in 1954th year. The idea was that  museum become a place for collecting wealth but also a place for artists exhibitions.

From back in 1954th year to date, the Museum has gathered a valuable collection of modern art, old masters of art, archaeological findings, ethnology, books, documents and photos of partisan battalion Pino Budicin. Unfortunately due to the small space of the museum, only a small part of the collection is available to visitors of the museum.

Rovinj heritage museum is situated in the baroque palace of the Counts of the Califfi from 17th and 18 century at Square Marshal Tito 11.

Grisia

Grisia or as hosts call Grizia, is a small street in the old part of Rovinj, which leads to the Church of St. Euphemia. Grisia is known for fine arts event that is held each year at which his works exhibit artists from all over the Croatia and also from Europe.

The beauty of this event is that on Grisia expose it arts the academic artists, amateurs and even children. Images are displayed on the walls of the street Grisia while hundreds of visitors roam the streets like ants.

Art exhibition on open "Grisia" went on summer 1967th year and since then is held every year on the first Sunday in August. Anyone can expose who in the morning report in Rovinj Heritage Museum as an exhibitor.

In addition to paintings on Grisia you can see handmade jewelry, ceramics, indigenous Istrian souvenirs, some performance, or even a sculpture of a sculptor. Although Grisia themselve is artist street because of the large number of galleries and studios, at art exhibitions, Grisia shine in colorful splendor. Thousands of people visit each year Grisia, and why it is called "Atelier under the vault of heaven" check this year yourself.
